Royal Pop Bioceramic: Scratch Resistance, Water Exposure & Care Guide
Share
The AP × Swatch Royal Pop is made of Bioceramic — and now that thousands of them are being worn on wrists rather than carried in pockets, the same questions keep coming up: does it scratch, can it get wet, and how do you keep it clean? Here is a practical guide.
What is Bioceramic, exactly?
Bioceramic is Swatch's patented material: a blend of roughly two-thirds ceramic and one-third bio-sourced plastic derived from castor oil. The result is lighter than full ceramic, warmer to the touch, and with the matte, silky finish Royal Pop owners know from the case and bezel. Our Bio-Ceramic wrist adapter is built in the same material family so the conversion reads as one object on the wrist.
Does Bioceramic scratch?
The ceramic content makes Bioceramic harder than ordinary plastics, and in daily wear it holds up well. It is not, however, as scratch-proof as full zirconia ceramic: hard contact with rough surfaces (stone, concrete, metal edges) can leave shine marks on the matte finish — visible as glossy spots rather than deep gouges. Practical rules: don't stack it against other watches, keep it off stone countertops, and store it in its box or a soft pouch. Light shine marks can often be reduced with a soft microfibre cloth; never use abrasive polish on the matte surface.
Can the Royal Pop get wet?
The Royal Pop is a pocket-watch design. Swatch has not positioned it as a swimming watch, and we recommend treating it as splash-resistant at most: rain and hand-washing splashes are no drama, but don't swim, shower or sauna with it. Check the documentation that came with your specific reference for its official rating before exposing it to more than splashes.
Cleaning routine (watch and adapter)
Once a month, or after sweaty summer days: lukewarm water, a drop of mild soap, a soft cloth or very soft brush, then pat dry. Avoid solvents, alcohol-based cleaners and abrasive sponges on Bioceramic — they can alter the matte finish. Our Silicon adapter is the easiest-care option of all: rinse it under the tap after sport, sunscreen or salt air and it looks new again. The Bio-Ceramic adapter needs exactly the same care as the watch itself — one routine for both.
Care FAQ
Will the wrist adapter scratch my Royal Pop?
No — the adapter snaps around the case without drilling, gluing or hard metal contact, and is fully reversible. Remove it occasionally and clean both surfaces so no grit sits between adapter and case.
Can I wear the adapter in water?
The Silicon adapter is unaffected by water. The limiting factor is always the watch itself — see above.
Does sunlight fade Bioceramic?
The pigment is embedded in the material rather than coated on top. As with any coloured material, avoid leaving it baking on a dashboard for days, but normal sun exposure during wear is not a concern.
